The dark character is supposed to look leathery, or burned.
I think I've created a design too creepy, because I had a nightmare with that image, except with an added bonus of sharp claws, teeth, ultra-regenerative powers, and enough of the creepy things to surround the continental US from the air.
...Yeah.
